Missing Shingle Replacement in Makawao, HI

Missing Shingle Replacement in Makawao, HI

A missing shingle is the most common call we get, and it is rarely just one. When a strip blows off, the course above it usually loses its seal too, and the exposed nail heads from the strip below are now sitting in open weather. Water follows those nail shanks straight into the deck.

Makawao, HI Shingle Roof Repair connects homeowners in Makawao, HI with shingle roof repair crews who replace missing shingles the right way. That means breaking the sealant strip on the course above with a flat bar, pulling the old nails, sliding in a new strip and fastening it with four nails (six in high-wind zones) placed just below the sealant line, not above it.

The crew will also check the underlayment where the shingle was missing. If the felt or synthetic layer is torn or the plywood is soft, that gets fixed before the new shingle goes on, otherwise you are covering a problem.

What to expect:

• Inspection of the courses around the gap
• New asphalt shingles matched as close as possible in style and color
• Hand-sealing of tabs with roofing cement where the factory strip will not bond in cold weather
